Job Title: Nursing Manager

Reporting to: Hospital Director

Area: Nursing Care/ Management



Overview:


The Nursing Manager role is key to the businesses ability to provide a high level of clinical standards. This will include strategic, professional and operational leadership to the nursing team across the practices and provide a nursing voice at a senior level. The Nursing Manager will ensure that patients are managed as effectively as possible from a nursing perspective to support the profitability and further growth of the practice. Working enthusiastically with your team you will help maintain a happy, efficient working environment, whilst ensuring practice policies and group policies are always adhered to whilst providing outstanding patient and client care. 




Main Purpose & Goals:


Team Management & Development

• Oversee the smooth functioning of the whole nurse team, and ensure the team is operating with exceptional medical and patient care standards

• Develop objectives and KPIs for the team to cope with development of the hospitals and support the achievements of the goals of both Company and team members.

• Continuously enhance the performance of team members by providing coaching, mentoring, feedback and guidance regularly and timely.  Develop targets and improvement plans for the team/ individuals to foster culture of growth and excellence.

• Conduct regular performance reviews and discussions with team members

• Foster a positive team environment and promote team morale.

• Participate in external CPD appropriate to your role plus any training in-house, ensuring post-training feedback forms are completed/ cascade of relevant information to appropriate team members.

• Work closely with People and Organization Department on people management agendas including nurse team talent acquisition, compensation and benefits management as well as performance management.


Practice Standards & Workplace Health & Safety

• Implement, maintain, review and update the Practice Standards across the practice.

• Ensure that effective governance, quality and safety procedures are in place in relation to the nursing team, providing regular reports to the practice’s senior leadership team as required.

• Maintain effective communications between Nursing team and other teams, especially Vets and Client Care Specialists team, to ensure smooth operations and seamless coordination and collaboration.  

• Take charge of change management for any revision of nurse team workflows, both within Nurse team and across all related departments.

• Continuously evaluate and enhance nursing team workflows and protocols to optimize operational efficiency, and to ensure consistent quality of services.  

• Ensure all equipment across the practice is appropriately maintained and serviced with the medical operations team.


Senior Leadership Engagement & Practice Development

• Contribute to the strategic development of the practice and support the development of nursing strategies which are in line with the practice, vision and strategy.

• Provide management information, performance reports and briefings relating to nursing within the business as required.

• Work closely with the vets and non-surgical teams including attending regular management meetings to ensure all areas are working together effectively and efficiently.

• Liaise with clinicians as required to enhance business development, clinical care and service feedback, ensuring practice wide alignment with expected clinical standards in respect of veterinary nursing.


Daily Operation Management

• With the support of Assistant Managers and Supervisors, overseas the work scheduling and manpower planning of the team. Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet patients and vet’s demand.

• Ensure all members of the nursing team are aware of their roles and job descriptions and are clear on the objectives.

• Communicate timely all updates, policy or operational changes to the nursing team

• Provide the leadership and experience to manage and deliver on complex and changing workloads which will include the need to identify and resolve conflicting priorities within tight timescales supporting the efficient management of patients.

• Arrange and coordinate with specialty/veterinarian team on student placements and any other visitations.

• Collaborate with Assistant Managers and supervisors to delegate responsibilities effectively


Clinical Nursing Duties

• Perform clinical duties for special patient cases or at times with emergency needs 

Provide guidance and support to nurses in the team to handle complex medical cases as well as manage clients/ patients with special needs when necessary
